Freewheel Day 3: Seminole to Henryetta
The rain gave way to fog and chili chilly (thanks Gary) temperatures this morning, but it didn't stop us from making our trek through some beautiful country.
The fog burned off about mid-morning, and when the sun came out, it brought a little hint of an east wind which was not quite an annoyance, even though most of the way we were headed east. There were hills today, but not so much that it kept us from having a great ride. We did a little more than 51 miles in just over three hours. Here is a link to my Garmin stats, complete with Google maps and vitals.
The last rest stop was at Graham School, where the two girls who were murdered Sunday night attended. Some friends showed up to sell cookies to raise money for their families. It was a nice gesture. Later on some of the guys were talking about it in the showers, and I heard a kid from another shower stall say, "what? Somebody got killed?" I told him that two young girls had been killed on Sunday night, and he fell silent for about 15 seconds, then I heard him say, "DAAAAAD?"
Henryetta is a great town—they have really rolled out the red carpet for us today. I lived here for three years, from 1989 to 1991. We lived here when Taylor was born, so it was fun to relive some old memories as I rode into town.
Here are some pics from the day. Enjoy.
I saw this sign along the road today.

Here is a close up

When the girls were little we took them to see "The Little Mermaid" at the local movie theater. This is
what the theater looks like today:

Tuesday is always Crazy Day on Freewheel. This guy qualifies. I told him that he is taking a huge chance
dressing like that while riding through the heart of oil country.

I expect to get some votes for Crazy Day, because nothing is crazier than the thought of me
wearing the leader's jersey in the Tour de France. Now if I get just get Snoop Dog to sit still.

This was the house we lived in when Taylor was born. It looks a lot different!

Here is a pic of me and my sweetie

Tomorrow will be the longest day of the week, over 70 miles. We will make our way through some of the longer and steeper hills of this years' ride. Drumright steps up as a great host town year after year, and I have no doubt that they will take good care of us again.

Jason,
I'm enjoying your daily updates. I really liked the picture of the Bud Light dedicated to CB Scott. That was a hoot! You must have had food on the brain when you wrote this post. Your referred to the morning temperatures as chili rather than chilly. I got a good chuckle out of that. Ride safely and enjoy the trip.

Thanks Gary, I'm glad you're enjoying the daily updates, and I appreciate you noticing my faux pas. Chilly was on my brain, but chili came off my hands.
Have a great day, and thanks again for commenting.

Jason,
It was neat to see your old house. When the church bought that house we only paid about 58,000 for it. Remember when you cleared a lot of the brush out of the downhill area behind the house and you had a really great view off the hill?
I used to come up to that house and park in the driveway and walk north from there. I would put in a mile to sometimes 4 miles walking up on the hill. You remember where Jacke Orr lived not too far north from your house. I used to walk all the way up to the next intersection and then all the way out to Wilson road. You know I never have lost any weight from walking.
I put in some laps around Boomer lake on your old Specialised last night. I am thinking that I may have to try the Freewheel next year.
Have a great time, be safe and keep writing.

That was a great price for that house, for sure. I remember the guy who said he owned the land was mad that I was clearing it, but he got mad about a lot of things.
I used to walk that course with you from time to time! It was a lot of fun, but like you, I don't remember ever losing any weight doing it. Keep up the riding, and definitely join us on Freewheel next year. It is a rush!
